Where it all began
We have been established as Reed Digital Ltd since 2006, before then we were known as Reed Reprographics which had been started back in 1987 by our parents. They invited us to join the following year and we re-trained and became a scanner operator and planner plate maker.
By 1994 Apple Mac had by then started too established itself as the industry standard for pre-press and for design agencies and book publishers. This is when we decided that the future was changing, and we needed to look ahead at how this was going to impact on us as a business.
In 1994 Indigo launched the indigo 1000 at the biggest print show Drupa in Germany, and this is when we saw it for the first time and said this is the future of print. 3 years later we were one of the first company to install the indigo 1000 press in East Anglia and only 20 others had been sold in the UK at that time.
Moving on 22 years and we have seen just that, a huge leap forward in quality, production speeds and the use of digital cameras. All this has confirmed that digital printing isn’t a fad as thought by the majority of traditional printers back in the 90’s and early 00’s but is now a real driving force in the print industry.
